As Index Eyewear opens its doors in Havelock North, we thought we’d introduce you to the team behind the name. After building an established and well-renowned eyewear store in Auckland, Lynne & Geoff Parker have sold up, relocated, and set up shop in a new part of town. They can’t wait to welcome you into a brand new store and introduce you to a world of international eyewear brands and optometry services like-no-other.
Q: You recently made the move down to Hawkes Bay, how has this change influenced your work and lifestyle?
Geoff: Moving here has allowed me to slow down and enjoy life more fully - I love it. Now, I have time for golf, DIY projects, and taking our schnauzer Billie for hikes up Te Mata Peak. Not to mention the wineries around us that we are slowly but surely ticking off. I also think the strong work/life balance means I can slow down and take time to connect with my patients—I think they appreciate that I’m not rushing through appointments.
Lynne: For me, it’s been a breath of fresh air, I have time for yoga, hiking all the gorgeous areas around us. The sense of community here is also really strong, so in terms of work, it lets me create a more personal experience in-store that’s not always possible in a big city.
Q: The name "Index Eyewear" has an interesting ring to it. What does it represent?
Lynne: For us, “Index” reflects quality and precision. In the optical world, the refractive index of lenses affects thickness, weight, and clarity, which ultimately impacts the wearer’s comfort and style. So, overall, it’s a reflection of our dedication to craftsmanship and style.
Q: What inspired the new business?
Geoff: After years in Auckland, we wanted to start fresh in a place we both love very dearly. We wanted to create a place where eyewear was more than just a vision correction tool—it’s about expression and confidence. Index Eyewear became our way to bring high-quality, personalised eyecare to the Hawkes Bay area while also showcasing frames and sunglasses that are both stylish and functional.
Q: As both business partners and partners in life, how do you balance work and personal life?
Geoff: I think it helps that we both genuinely love what we do. Lynne brings so much energy to finding unique frames and helping clients, and that enthusiasm is contagious. When we’re not working, though, we make sure to set time aside for hobbies and time chatting with our adult daughter Holly who lives in Sydney and of course walking with our dog Billie.
Lynne: We’re good at knowing when to switch off and enjoy life outside of the business. Our days off are sacred—whether we’re enjoying a wine tasting, hiking, or even just watching a movie together. It helps us come back to work feeling refreshed, ready to bring that energy to our clients.
Q: What advice do you have for those looking to invest in their eyewear?
Geoff:It’s easy to see eyewear as something you have to have because the “doctor” said so, but your frames should also reflect your personality and lifestyle. Quality matters because you’ll be wearing them every day, so invest in a pair that combines comfort with style.
Lynne: I couldn’t agree more! Eyewear is one of the first things people notice, so it’s worth choosing a pair that truly feels like “you.” We’re here to guide you in finding frames that fit your unique look and needs.

Q: Geoff, with over 35 years of experience as an optometrist, how has your approach evolved over the years?
Geoff: Over time, I’ve come to see that optometry is as much about relationships as it is about technical skill. I always emphasise understanding, communication, and educating my patients - without super jargon-heavy language. I think the whole process should be a comfortable, trustworthy one where patients know they’re in good hands.
Q: And Lynne, as a lover of fashion and an eyewear specialist, what excites you about helping clients find the perfect frames?
Lynne: I think something that has always stuck with me is just how much people express themselves through their frames, and it’s right on your face - people will notice it. So, I love helping clients find a frame that fits someone's style, face-shape, and lifestyle. Whether it’s a bold design or a timeless classic, seeing someone’s confidence light up with a new frame is why I do what I do. I also am so grateful that I get the privilege of travelling to Europe for work, where I meet with designers, discuss the new collections and select new pieces. It’s such a special moment and means I can bring the best of the best in Eyewear to Index.
